The Grass On My Side
Sometimes I think I am behind compared to my peers & other times I think I am ahead of them by milestones. I think comparison really is the thief of joy. As the young woman I am becoming that is an unfortunate tale I have had to come to terms with & accept & learn to steer out of.
I have had to learn to enjoy the grass on my side even if there seems to be a little rain storm heading in over the hills. I have much I have accomplished & can be proud of. So many things I have done in my life that I never would of expected, & sometimes I still look at other grass & compare.

Carmilla
By: Sheridan Le Fanu

The classic 1872 novella that predates Dracula and set the stage for modern vampire lore. It follows a young woman living in an isolated Austrian castle who is captivated—and slowly drained—by a mysterious, enchanting guest named Carmilla. My Coffee Run Turned Into A Bookstore Haul (Again)
The biggest issue with my cosmetology school being in Athens is that the nearest Starbucks happens to be inside the Barnes & Noble right across the street. The even bigger issue? I have zero self-control when it comes to buying books. But considering I’ve almost finished everything from my last haul, I’m declaring this latest stack completely justified.
Here is what I picked up today :)

Dyatlov Pass: Bare Feet & Dead Ends
On a frozen February night in 1959, nine experienced Soviet hikers slashed open their tents from the inside, stripped off their boots, & walked barefoot into sub-zero darkness toward their deaths. No distress signal, no survivors, & no clear sign of an attacker.
Welcome back to The Nerd Files, where today we are braving the cold to unravel the infamous Dyatlov Pass Incident.

Sunbeams, 4AM Flights, & Three Iced Coffees Later
We spent Day 3 at Kole’s Aunt Dianne and Uncle Tom’s house—watching football, eating amazing food, and watching the boys throw the football around and play gaga ball. I spent part of the afternoon curled up in a beam of sunlight on the back porch with my book, just soaking every bit of the day in.
Dear Abby 002: Drinking, Drama, & Taboo Attraction.
"Dear Abby,
I’ve been having some problems with my dad’s best friend. Keep in mind I’m an adult but my father’s friend is still old enough to be my dad, maybe even my grandfather if he was a young parent. Anyway, he’s been coming over more often and at first I thought it was because they were gay. But one night after my dad had passed out drunk in his room, while his friend was asleep on the couch. I came into the room to clean up some beer cans and cover his friend up. The friend grabbed my arm as I was walking away and said “I’d do anything to be with you” at first I thought it was just drunk rambling. But honestly I’m rather sexually attracted to him and there’s been some odd tension between us ever since. What should I do Abby? - Anonymous"

Finding My Inner City Cat: Train Naps, Freezing Winds, & Real Coca-Cola in Chicago
It's the evening of day 2 in Chicago, & as I sit here in the bed of our cozy bed & breakfast, I'm reflecting on everything I saw & experienced today.
My morning started bright & early around 5:30AM. I brewed some coffee for Kole & I, settled in with my book for a bit, & then got ready to tackle the day. Once we were all dressed & caffeinated, we headed over to Koles' Aunt Dianne's' home for a plentiful breakfast to power us up before hitting the city.
Chicago: Travel Day
As I am sitting in our Chicago bed & breakfast this morning, I am reflecting on yesterday's journey & looking forward to the day ahead. I feel completely content.
